Picking the best VST plugins and virtual instruments for your Hip Hop beats can sometimes be overwhelming. In this short video, I’ve highlighted my Top 5 Go-To Plugins that I use in my personal music production. Hopefully this can offer you some insight to some really great software you may consider for your own music.

This is the real deal, by far my favorite vsti plugin! A well-rounded and comprehensive virtual instrument. Includes a wide array of sounds including: various synths, traditional instruments, pads, strings, vocal patches, basses and keyboard to name a few. Excellent lead synths and sound fx!
If you find yourself in need of some fresh sound effects, transition sounds and more really unique one-of-a-kind SFX, I’d also recommend the TCustomz Sound FX Kit (Download 95+ Samples).
Lounge Lizard
One of my oldest plugins. Includes many vintage electric pianos including: various Rhodes sounds, Wurlitzer patches, custom electric piano patches and more!
Guitar Rig
A really dope effects plugin that emulates vintage guitar amplifiers. Works great with a standard guitar signal, but you can create some really unique sounds with lead synths, vocals and more. Don’t be afraid to experiment!
Izotope Ozone
My go-to, all inclusive mastering plugin. Compression. EQ. Reverb. Harmonic Exciter. Stereo Imaging. Dynamics. This one does it all!

Some of my readers may not be familiar with The Hartmann Neuron Synthesizer but now you can get it for free as an plugin for Mac Intel only. When the Hartmann Neuron was first released 10yrs ago it cost a hefty sum of $5000. The price was too steep for me and I’m sure many felt the same way. Boom Bap Vst Plugin
In 2000, Axel Hartmann and I, Stephan Bernsee, set out to designing a novel synthesizer based on artificial neural networks used for sound synthesis, the synthesizer. We were able to get support from a lot of people, including well known artists such as Hans Zimmer, and Hartmann Music as a company won several awards for innovation in synthesis technology.
Unfortunately and despite the huge interest in our products, due to some issues with distribution and our hardware manufacturer Hartmann was driven out of business in 2004. With the company dead there was no chance for owners to get tech support or updates.
Just recently, a Facebook group came into existence that managed to attract many knowledgeable and skilled Neuron owners who provide support and advice to each other in their spare time. To aid them in the process of keeping the Neuron alive I have dusted off the old
NeuronVS sources in order to revive the Neuron VS VST plug-in, a software-only version of the Neuron synth that came with a powerful hardware controller, the . Thanks to the generosity of former Hartmann CEO Stefan Rapp and Neuron designer Axel Hartmann I am now able to provide an updated version of the original software here free of charge, (hopefully) free of bugs – and with no warranties of any kind.
